Azolla Plant

Azolla Introduction_ Azolla  is an aquatic fern consisting of a short, branched, floating stem, bearing roots which hang down in the water. Azolla is also known as mosquito or duckweed fern.  Plant diameter ranges from 1-2.5 cm. This  plants are triangular or polygonal in shape, and float on the surface of the water, individually or in mats. It  is an nitrogen fixing fern. After growing whole bed this is feeded to animals. This plants have a-lot of protein content and it also naturally fixes nitrogen into nitrites, so it's a fastest growing and photo-synthesizing fern. Like all ferns, sexual reproduction leads to spore formation, but Azolla sets itself apart from other members of its group by producing two kinds. During the summer months, numerous spherical structures called sporocarps form on the undersides of the branches. The male sporocarp is greenish or reddish and looks like the egg mass of an insect or spider.
